Following the withdrawal of 44422 from service at the Nene Valley Railway in 2013 with worn out crown stays, Peak Rail have kindly allowed it to be stored at Rowsley.

During 2014 the Company have been looking into ways of either finding funding to complete the 10 year boiler overhaul or finding a partner with whom we could work with to get the loco back into working order.

Following negotiations with the West Somerset Railway we are pleased to announce that the loco will be on long term hire to the railway from December 2014.

The plan is to have 44422 back into service in time for the WSR’s gala in March 2016 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the closure of the Somerset & Dorset Railway.

The boiler is currently at LNWR Heritage’s works at Crewe where the first task is to undertake a full investigation to ascertain the amount of work required to enable the loco to be steamed again.
