44422 & 43924 @ the WSR Spring Gala

44422 and 43924 ran doubled headed on all the days of the West Somerset Spring Gala and together they were a great draw to visitors and photographers as this was the first time in preservation that two 4Fs have run together.

Unfortunately the week before the week before the gala the loco suffered problems with the valve rings. With such a short time before the gala the WSR engineers manged to get the loco running in time by completing a temporary repair.

The engine managed all its rostered turns, though sounding decidedly odd at times , until the Sunday afternoon when it was decided that the in the best interests of the engine to take it out of service for the rest of the day.

Since the gala the valves have been removed and a full set of valve rings have been ordered. Also, whilst the valves are out, the pistons will be removed and a new set of  piston rings will be ordered and fitted.

Since the loco arrived at the WSR in March 2015 it has run around 9000 miles so a new set of valve and piston rings are well deserved.
